When planning the menu for my first little dinner party (post about that coming soon!), I thought it would be super fancy to serve as an amuse the 'arpege egg' like the one I had eaten (and loooved) at Manresa. How hard could it be, right? I got myself down to the farmers' market and bought some fresh eggs, and used this recipe. Here's what it looked like on my test run:
Looks pretty cool, right? Well, I don't know what the hell was wrong with it but it tasted disgusting. I tried two bites of it and then dumped both it and its gross brother that I had made as a taste test. Just.. yuck. It tasted sickeningly gross. I had to totally abandon this dish for my dinner party. I haven't given up though - I'm going to try this other recipe next time and see if it's any better. I'm going to go crazy if I don't get this right, since I really loved it at the restaurant. Sigh.. what a waste. I need to find another use for those damn egg cups now, too.
